The Samsung Galaxy Tab P1010 is an iPad look alike but in a smaller, lighter, easy to handle, form factor. Though not the best in all departments, it is certainly a path-breaker. The front display has a black bezel while the back is glossy white. The front has four touch buttons, the volume and headphone jack sit at the top and the power button as well as the microSD card are placed at the right edge. The overall appearance is smooth and comfortable to hold.

Computer peripherals maker iBall has a significant presence in India and has joined the tablet bandwagon by introducing middle of the road iBall Slide Tablet aimed at the budget conscious market. It is not expected to make waves and may be a “me too” player in a segment that is getting rather crowded with major manufacturers like Viewsonic, Lenovo and MSI pushing their models with similar specs at similar or lower prices.

Like a few others in the market, the Slide runs on Gingerbread rather than the Honeycomb Android OS. It features an A8, ARM Cortex processor running at 1 GHZ. The display is a 7 inch, capacitive multi-touch type with a resolution of 800×480 with HD video playback capabilities. A 2 MP front camera enables pictures and video functionality. One cannot understand why a rear camera was omitted.
8 GB inbuilt storage and 512Mb RAM is well serve the purpose for most non-demanding users. Storage is expandable up to 32 GB through a microSD card slot. Connectivity is through Bluetooth, USB, HDMI and WI-Fi. A 4400 mAH Li-ion battery powers the tablet.
The microSD card is on one side of the tablet along with a 3.5mm jack, a microphone socket and a DC charging socket. Screen lock, return and menu keys are located at the top front. The Home button sits next to the display at the front.
HDMI port is an added advantage for full HD playback of your videos on your external HDMI port provided LCD/LED Monitor.
Looks are not the strong point of the iBall Slide Tablet with its spare, simple and frugal design. Some may consider it rather lightweight and somewhat delicate.
It comes loaded with music and video player, social networking, web browser and the bare standard interface without any customized features from the company.

If they have one thing going for them, it is their sleek and stylish exteriors designed by Jeremy Scott, world-class designer retained by MSI for the cool appearance of the MSI Enjoy 7 and Enjoy 10 series tablets. The Taiwan Company apparently targets mid and low range price brackets with the two offerings that, however, face strong competition from Lenovo and Viewsonic.
